Every once in a while I'll Start to go through and research the multitude of Rock & Gem magazines, LJ, RM, etc. I have laying around. Maybe somebody can help me out here? I came across an article posted in August R&G 1997. "Learn to be A Star Maker" ! Written by Tina Everly. Jim & Tina own the mine at the time. - (The Lord's Mine) and, so far, I haven't been able to come up with any contact information.
The article was, very well written. Very thorough and all aspects cutting the Star Quartz was explained. I would be interested in finding out additional information and contacting present owners. 17 years ago, so a lot could have happened or changed. Your assistance, suggestions, would very much be appreciated. IV

Ivan: Much easier to narrow down if you'd tell us what mineral the article said was being cut into the stars stones. If it's garnet, you are probably dealing with the Idaho star garnets and there are public digs for them now on government land. If the star cutting involves Rose Quartz, check out the Hogg Mine in Georgia, I think. It's still a fee dig and yields rose quartz that stars. Haven't heard the Lords Mine name myself but mine names sometimes change with a change in ownership. Could also be one of the "salted" mines in the Carolinas that salt their gravel with cheap star sapphire from Asian sources.
Could also be referencing the Lord Hill Pegmatites of Oxford, County Maine. Not uncommon for pegmatite dikes to contain star quartz or other minerals that might star ...Mel

If memory serves me right, "The Lords Mine" was in Eastern San Diego County at In-ko-pah Gorge. Many years ago, before the mine owner claimed it, we used to go out there to collect quartz crystals, mica books and feldspar crystals. I drive by there all the time on the way to Arizona. The mine is visible from the Highway 8. Last time I passed through, there was the same old camp trailer that has been there for a number of years, but you rarely see anyone around. To me, the area was not very productive if you planned on making money, and it sits right in the path of many illegal immigrants coming north. Despite the heavy Border Patrol presence, we were advised by a CHP officer who stopped by at the site to be sure we were armed and vigilant. I remember seeing some advertising by the owners for "Star Quartz", but nothing recent...

The stars that were cut and photos posted showed very nice star cabs. Further information that was posted at the end of the article only named the mine and a phone number that would be a Ca number. I have not been able to reach..... Your note was appreciated. Thank you! IV

I remember seeing some advertising by the owners for "Star Quartz", but nothing recent... Very interesting. It seems, as though, this correlates very closely to the article that was written for Rock & Gem in 1997. The closing paragraph goes like this. For further information about The Lord's Mine, call Jim or Tina Everly at (619) 390 - 3279. Have not been able to reach anybody. Message states that they are not available now. Please call again. That message could mean a lot of different scenarios. My interest & motivation was essentially to possibly locate the owners and locate some of this material, if available. I think that from your explanation and experience in that area that you have helped to solve the mystery of The Lord's Mine. Thank you and the others that have taken up the hunt. Maybe some of The Lord's Mine - Star Rose Quartz will turn up in the future. IV

YW IV, But in this case the mine may have been bought out and the mines name changed.. The new owners could have found something and did not wish to share it with others.. or a corporation bought the mine and is strictly using it for landscaping etc. Things like this happen.. I would assume that you've even went as far as containing Rock & Gem editors?.

I would assume that you've even went as far as containing Rock & Gem editors?. As you mentioned there are probably a number of scenarios. Not sure what you mean by containing the Rock & Gem editors? Spoke with an R&G editor representative and they were said that they were unable to locate any additional information, as most of the material is written by the author of the story and posted in magazine as written. Thank you very much! .... IV
