Please forgive a novice question - but what do you do with these once you have cut them?

Please forgive a novice question - but what do you do with these once you have cut them? Like the Who song, piles and piles and piles Sell some for aquaria, knapping, tumbling. use some for displays and lamp decorations. Mostly to satisfy curiosity of the innards. And an excuse to get outside and collect more hp. oh, to make Fossilman get in trouble drooling on his keyboard.

It's not just Fossilmans keyboard that keeps getting wet!

It's not just Fossilmans keyboard that keeps getting wet! When chipping a window off those solid ones I try to do it in a spot where it will not interfere w/the rind after being sawn. So it has a full perimeter coating. These pairs ground and glued together for specimen displays on pedestals or lamp bases. Used to sell them to decorating business.

I'd like to dig through those piles, wouldn't need to go to the river. I'd be happy right there in the yard. Jackpot there!!

SO, could you take one of these, and drill it from the back, and insert a powerful LED light and make it "glow"?

The problem with that dang coral is it is hard hard. it saws well if sawn slow w/good lubricant. But core drilling is aggravating and eats bits fast. I drilled some for mounting on rods and tubes and about gave up. If I had a higher speed drill press it would have helped. The style was mounting them on lucite(acrylic) a few years back when building boom was going full tilt.

I'm kindof in awe of just how much of it your able to find. Is the location you hound it nearby, or do you have to travel far to pick it? all from one spot? Can't find anything like that near me That's for sure

Can't find anything like that near me That's for sure It is 3-4 hours to 6 hours away. From Tampa FL north to South Georgia. The rivers are peppered with it. It is very common if you can figure out how to get it out of the river ha. I have luck with a boat. Usually go for 3 days and collect 500-600 pounds per day. 3 or 4 trips per year and that keeps me busy. More coral than I can process. And a lot of that is duds. My favorite material is the stuff further away near Tampa, and I have a hard time getting permission to collect there as there are few rivers. Most of that is collected in deep orange orchard drainage ditches. Florida strict on trespassers(felon on AG land) so I get permission. Don't feel bad, Atlanta has crappy rocks, so travel required to get cool ones.

Well worth all the effort it seems. Thanks for sharing pics and info. Interesting to say the least, to see what others hound and the lengths they go thru to get what they get
