My son bought a tube agate at a garage sale and it is amazing. I have no idea where it came from so maybe someone can clue me in on that. After I saw it I was curious how they form so I did a little research. I have forgotten the important part but something in the water builds a little string then the chalcedony forms around that. I thought that was pretty amazing so I got to looking real close and this is what I found. A perfect example of how it forms. Is that cool or what? YES, I cut it in two. I had to. I could not stand only having one rock. I was very careful not to cut the string though. I am thinking about cutting one slab off of it because I think it would make a couple of super cabs. Jim BTW If anyone wants to show off theirs I would like to see them.

Awesome! That's Bull Canyon agate from the California/Nevada border region. It's always vuggy, full of tubes and comes in red, gold, green and some pink I've got a big faced hunk in the garden. Not a good pic but it at least shows the tubey angelwing patterns. This one is pink and gold.....Mel Here are the red /green and gold slabbed:

I think the first two pics are both sides of same slab.
A smaller piece.
Couple of a preforms from the larger slab.
Finished cab from preform on left. I think the other cab went into the rework pile.
Thanks for letting me post on your thread, Jim. Nice to know what I got.

YES, I cut it in two. I had to. That line cracked me up Jim!! I have seen some Carey, Idaho tube agate that looked a lot like that too. The colors are great in your piece. Maybe Tony catmandewe can chime in as I am sure he has seen stuff like that.

No, not really. Sure pics are good.
But for me, I'd rather OWN some tube agate, you lucky sum-a-na fargin' ice-hole!!
Jim if you plan to come to Q in January again I'll bring black jade to trade for tube agates. lol

I am out of turkish purple, unless I buy a drum or two. Last night I contacted the mine to see about a deal. The price a year ago was OK but I need to do it thru escrow payment. Cant sent that kind of money overseas to a stranger.

I hear that. Way too many scams going on now and a trip there would probably eliminate any profit unless you bought a very large quantity. Jim

The outside of those tubes look very similar to the coral we find. However the colors within is a different story. Fine material Jim.

Sure looks like Carey, ID tube/moss to me. It's a neat specimen wherever it's from.
