I was given a gift from a seller when I made a purchase on Ebay. He sent me this very pretty but chubby labradorit cab. My wife quickly claimed ownership of my chubby and she wants me to wrap it. The chubby (cab) is a 1/2" thick and is 1.75" long and 1.25" wide. What will be the best way to wrap it? I have 20g dead soft square copper wire and 18g half round half hard copper wire. Is that wire large enough to do the job? I tried a basket wrap but it opened up in a few days. Thanks for any help with this Stu Here is a picture of the cab

How about groove wrap. Giving the cab maximum exposure.

How about groove wrap. Giving the cab maximum exposure. Hi Kurt, That does seem to be the best alternative, plus it will give me an excuse to get a new toy. One of those Gryphon grinders. Thanks Stu

You could net it, too.

Here's an old one I did. Eni Oken popularized this wrap. I think she still has a tute for it. It is really good for a variety of things. I think you can find some youtube's of similar.

I think the groove wrap will work & look better but I would definitely advise the use of a heavier gauge wire like 18g or even 14 to wrap into the groove to provide enough strength for the weight of the cab as it is worn, it will move around and put strain on the wire, I have have a small chubby that I wrapped with 18g copper but instead of groovin it, don't have a groovie machine yet, I wrapped it as tight as I could and used some very thin copper to accent it (22g) right down the center. this helps secure the stone in place. I still have it and one day will cut a groove for the wire and rewrap it.
Good luck & post pics when done!!

Oh I thought it! Figured I should keep my mouth shut!
How about doing a border wrap with 5 or 6 wires in the frame? The sides don't look very straight so you could do some hefty pulls in the back for support and just tug the front wires tight so each one comes up over the face a little more. That way you won't need any pulls in the front that would cover up the flash of that pretty stone

I don't think I am at that level yet Stu Stu- I got her tute and couldn't follow it. It was frustrating. I went to youtube and used this vid to be able to complete a wrap. Between youtube and her tute- you can do it. It's not that hard.

It's not that hard but you have to go slow so you don't kink the wire

I think that wrap is more difficult than netting. I had the original tute, I think she has revised it since then, maybe it is easier to follow now.

I think that wrap is more difficult than netting. I had the original tute, I think she has revised it since then, maybe it is easier to follow now. It has less weaving. In my attempt with the netting my long strand of wire kept kinking and I couldn't get even looking loops. The tight weaves I have an easier time with especially if they don't loop thru each other
