Sounds like a really great trip Joe. Maybe you can answer a question for me. I used to collect in Wyoming long ago but never collected any wood. I bought some limbs from a rock shop in Rock Springs I think. He sold me two types: blue limb casts he said were Blue Forest, and others that look like some you've posted with brownish exteriors but jet black inside that he called Eden Valley. Are the two locations close together? How do you tell one from the other? Do you by chance have them pieces still, if so how about a pic ? Eden valley is a good sized area with many many types of woods colors and so on ..you got oregon buttes area .. big sandy area tri territory area ..just to name a few that are all considered eden valley wood . I have pieces that are jet black that came from blue forest as well they just lacked any form of blue agate . Aso in jet black I have palm casts and some from a unknown source iv found in multiple areas of the green river basin ? Then ya got those of black and some wild colorings that are pure agatized that I call eden rez wood due to its the only place I have found it ..... So as for your a piece its hard to tell the location without seeing it buddy . Ill post a few pics and see if it matches yours if needed and if joe don't mind me pulling my wood out in his back yard Cheers

OK, here are some I've had some questions about since seeing the wood you people collected. Blue Forest limb casts? More blue forest? Eden valley? Brownish Eden? polished (has clear "rind') Eden ? black unpolished Eden ? black polished Thanks in advance for your comments!

Brownish Eden? polished (has clear "rind') Eden ? black unpolished Eden ? black polished Thanks in advance for your comments! Those all look to me being properly identified. The second picture cast on the left looks different from side view. Is that dark brown agate or chalcedony? I have yet to find a brown agate cast. If so that is very cool! I have numerous blues that are also filled with that dark brown to black grain but looking at the colors scheme definitely Eden valley palm. Thanks gemfellar for sharing. Maybe Braders has some more input on these.

Thanks Joe, I appreciate the input. Looking forward to Braders' comments as well. The piece on the left in #2 is chalcedony -- bad image. It's does actually have a slightly brownish hue but t's not as dark as the image shows.

Here in northern Wyoming I have found one (1) blue stone (blue and brown mix) in six years of hounding and I have covered a huge area. Looks like blue agate or chalcedony and it has no rings so hard telling where it came from. There is a lot of pet wood (agatized) around here but it is scattered far and wide from river wash and glacial push. I even found three full logs ten to twenty feet long but they weren't buried quite deep enough when they fell so they did not make it to petrified, just punk that fell apart when I tried to dig it out.
Looks like I need to make a trip south because you have found some really nice blue tree rock which is my favorite stone color after pink. I have wanted to get down that way and meet up with herchenx but have not gotten that done either. So many rocks, so little time. Jim btw, thanks for the trip report and photos. Great job.

Anytime Gemfellar! I'm sure Braders will poke his nose in sometime. Wampidy, you should definitely try and make it down this way not just for the wood but the wide variety of stones in general. I to want to make it up north again from Cody all the way over in to buffalo. Especially the bighorns. Maybe sometime we can all join up on a trip?! Anyhow have a great day folks happy hounding
