I recently found a really odd rock (actually my wife found it). Are these turtle scutes or some other fossil, or just unusual non-biological rocks? Found in SW Wyoming. The green and red one is about 1.5" high and 1" wide, and is most mysterious to me. The area around this find is known for turtle fossils. These were very unlike any other rocks in the area. Please let me know what you think. Maybe I will have to post in the Fossil Forum too. Thanks for looking. "back" side

No experience with fossils at all, but it sure does seem to have a turtle shell patern to it. I wonder about the two (maybe three) puncture holes top and bottom. I could imagine that this was a whole hatchling turtle that ran afoul of a larger predator. Or this could just be my addled Friday @ lunch time brain from a rough week at work imagining things.

Nice finds. Ive found quite a bit shell in sw wyoming as well, nothing that looks like yours, but that doesnt really mean much. They appear to be so and are pretty damn awesome.
