Hello all, the family is going up to Door County, WI in a couple weeks and thought I'd ask on here if anyone knows of places to get interesting rocks from this area. I'm new to rock hounding. My daughter and I have fun finding rocks to tumble and also collecting larger ones for spheres once I get that beast built!
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Tom

Hi, Tom, I found this: www.doorcountygems.com/edit: Tom, not sure but the gem mining buckets might be salted with materials that aren't from the locality. Hope a forum member can share some info of the rocks found there. Door County, WI looks like a nice place for fishing!

I have been to door co. a few times years ago... seems I remember there were field stone fences everywhere. If there are any public beaches or harbors, or boat launch areas you will probably find picking right at the water's edge, as well as along every gravel road you may come across. check out google maps to spot likely hunting spots from a satellite view... scope out rock shops in the area and call ahead or stop and talk to the keepers about places to hunt... take pictures and tell us about your trip when you get back. Happy hunting!
