I've showed the rough rock here before and I don't think anyone had any ideas where it might come from. This is the very first cabochon I've made from it and it's a stunner if I have to say so myself The actual moss color is green but as long as it's encased in the chalcedony it appears as blue. Rough rock I bought at an estate sale a year ago. It weighed 40lbs before I started whacking on it today.

WOW, love how the blue below emphasizes the green on the surface. Amazing!

I love it when the moss has that much clear agate around it. Looks so stunning! The moss agate that I have that looks like this is Horse Canyon moss agate. has the same blue tinge around the enclosed moss tendrils. Beautiful Cab! Fran

Beautiful cab! I'd say Horse Canyon too. Though I don't have any that huge, the growth habit ( not nodular or limb cast) looks very like stuff I have from there....Mel

god bless america, I am drawn to this thread to see your good fortune in getting such a large piece of this material. I'm told that spot, it's all houses now.
That rock is worth a couple thousand bux.

Yeah, I believe Horse Canyon was closed not long after the last field trip I was on there and the area has been subdivided into little ranchette properties. A great loss of a beautiful and scenic, though very rugged, collecting site, a lot of which was still pretty untouched and productive. So many collecting areas going that way these days...Mel

Tommy if you slab that stuff I want to buy a slab for a photo project I have in mind. NO, you cannot GIVE it to me. You MUST sell it to me. In fact I'd like a slab of purple cow with purple/reds/yellow in it too.

Spectacular cab and great material. I got a small piece of horse canyon that looked like that and had it slabbed. I didn't end up with a lot and am saving it. Most of what is being sold as horse canyon on ebay is a much lower quality than what you've got. Congratulations on the find and what you have done with it.

Tommy, you say the moss actually green but appears blue. Can you see the green color with your eyes? Does it just appear blue on camera, I have some moss that looks exactly the same or almost the same but it is green not blue. The fellow that gave me the slab is pretty certain it came from McDermid Oregon. As soon as I showed him a picture of your cab he said "that moss is really green in color and I think I have some". He is pretty sure it's from Oregon but not positive. I took a pic with my iPhone but it's bad. I will get a good pic for you.
Stunning cab you did a super job on it
