For the past week or so I've been trying to cut a slab or three every evening while I'm putting things away, shutting things down, and trying to clean up whatever mess I created during the day. All of these rocks were collected from the same general area not too awful far from home, the same place where we found some fairly abundant nephrite. I didn't take any pictures of the nephrite, I'll try to get some of those in a few days. I really should have taken pictures of some of these backlit but didn't get it done. The next couple look like Lysite agate, but I don't know as we can call them that since they were found a long ways from the classic Lysite collecting area. Found a decent chunk of red jasper with some yellow in it. When I opened it up it had some green hiding in there as well. This was a nice little chunk of coral. Same coral, turned and cut along the tubes. Kind of liked this one. It's small, but I wouldn't mind finding some more of it. Most all of it is fairly solid, and I'm thinking that I see a few cabs hiding in there. Have to get after it soon. Thanks for looking. Russ

Nice rock there Russ. We maybe should see if we can find our way back over there.
Jimmy has surgery in Billings thursday so I may be tied up with kids for a couple of months though. The doc is not going to let him get up and about for quite a while. Jim

Beautiful cuts! That pink is really intense and you are right, that one sure does look like Lysite Agate....Mel
PS: There ain't no such thang as too many rock pics.

ditto mel, no such thing as too many pictures. I could look at the pink all day... can it be nephrite too? whatever it is, call it beautiful! the others are great too, don't forget to show us what you do with them. I'm looking forward to that!

Thanks, folks. I'm still playing with the photography part of this, and I may retake some of these pictures. Colors are pretty much on, though.
Jim-had to go to Billings this morning. Hope Jimmy's surgery goes well. It'll still be a long road but hopefully this will get him up and about. Definitely have to get back over there, and I've been doing some more reading and looking at maps and have a couple more spots in mind that I really want to get to before the snow flies (which, in this part of the country, could be tomorrow. I've been snowed on every month of the year.).
Jamesp-Nah, man you are the coral king. We find a few little pieces here and there, but nothing like your honey holes in the southeast.
Everybody who likes the pink-it really does stand out and they look better in the hand than on the screen. No nephrite in that bunch, it's all agate/jasper. I'll get a few pics of the same slabs backlit in a day or four.
Thanks again
Russ
