Beautiful slabs and your diet seems to be working! Are the slabs you're wondering about possibly dolomite?

Just go float the Yellowstone River and pull off on the gravel bars n load up on the Yellowstone River Agates LOL Well, not as easy finding as it sounds like, but there is a plethora of agates and pet wood to be found up there with a lil bit of work.

well, my gut said travertine so carbonate it.... well possibly is. Do you have some pool acid to test for reaction? Knife scratch?

gingerkid Drummond Island Rocks - I was thinking rolling hills possibly too, but it was a local rock shop find, so I gave them a call today and asked if they'd ever had any Rolling Hills in & they said not that she could ever remember, but they'd had plenty of prairie agate over the years - so thanks for the confirmation Sabre52@shotgunner - I did do a scratch test, it didn't leave any trace of a mark, no muriatic acid on hand (pools are few & far between in NE Ohio) - so any common household things I could use (vinegar?)- anything like that? Thanks one and all for having a look. Some of this will get cabbed & some will get tumbled - pics will follow :-)

I think Mel solved it for you/us. Vinegar works on carbonates like travertine or dolomite but muriatic is better. But yours is indeed prairie agate as Mel said. He is an old timer that has forgotten more about rocks than I will ever know, and we are all Mel-ionaire's for it.
Thanks chameleon man and Mel for the new knowledge!

Braders, it might be worth your time to ask Fossilman for advice on hunting agates up there, he was raised up there in Montana, and is super helpful!!!!!

Nice material. I really like the plasma and prairie agates. Do you know where the plasma came from? There is a BLM area near me that has been re-opened to rock hounding recently that contains plasma agate. A trip might be in order.

I just saw the hint of greenish blue & knew there was something pretty cool on the inside.

Thanks guys. The rock club I belong to has made at least one field trip to Clear Creek since it was reopened to rock hounding by the BLM. I wasn't too interested in benitoite and hadn't heard about plasma agate until a couple weeks ago. Then this thread was posted with the nice photos. I'll have to see if the guy who initially showed me the plasma wants to go out again. Thanks.
