The cabs I have had, have had no smell and I don't believe they were sealed. Maybe it has to do with porosity?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you rockjunquie. I have been really busy lately. So I do not see a problem with cutting the cabs for you. All that matters is how soon you might need them.
