Does anyone here sell or buy Lapis Lazuli rough? I have a friend in Afghanistan right now and I had him check on local prices for me. If you have recently bought/sold any, can you tell me what the going rate is? I need to know if it is worth buying some from overseas.
Thanks in advance!

There is a person on ebay selling it routinely for a long time now. It is from Afghanistan. I bout a 4x4 slab 1/4 thick for 99.00 High, but it is a gorgeous piece. jan mineralsThere were some military guys selling it, but I think their command busted them.

There has been a lot of lapis brought into the U.S. over the last 13 years and that has made prices drop very low compared to before. I've seen fairly good grade 95+% blue lapis rough with some pyrite sell in the $45-60 range. And I have seen lapis speckled with white calcite that is refereed to as "denim" sell as low as $25 per pound here in the states. Afghanistan is a very dangerous place right now for westerners. I have a brother-in-law working over there now. Before he went he asked if I wanted him to try to find me any lapis and I told him no. I would rather he keep his mind on his work and his safety and make it back home alive and in one piece. Larry C.

I think the military guy's forum name was RXJET or something like that it seems.

The military guy is Elijah Freeman and his forum name is ejfree, but if you search the forum it sounds like he was shutdown from buying/selling.

I have seen plenty on the internets, but I wanted to get info on any first hand experiences. Here is one pic my buddy sent me of some polished stuff that is a bit pricey. He is gonna find out if any rough, straight from the mine, is available for less. I know its not a great pic but if anyone has any comments on the quality of these stones, please share that! Yeah that looks mostly like lower grade material. Larry C.
