Was knocking a window off this one and color was nice but sounded like wood. Coral very deceptive, fine whole sideratrea coral head. But insides was pith. Very white pith. Hole enlarged with a pressure washer using a zero tip. Until it crumbled no more. Most large corals from this river are full of this pith Top/sun facing side Close-up of the splintery innards

disappointing! We get loads of incompletely silicified fossils from the beach here.. most only have a crust about an n'th of an inch and then just limestone... Those pithy ones should market well to the aquarium folks, the extra calcium in the water is desirable for many aquarium setups... and its dramatic to look at!

So you have the teasers too. It's a curse. Most of the ones baseball size and smaller are solid. Once in a blue moon you find a big one that is solid thru. Nature teasing us like that.

It is interesting carving the insides out w/a pressure washer. The coral was probably more pithed than I after getting it's guts blasted out with a pressure washer.

please explain why this is disappointing? I'd be tickled to find that.

please explain why this is disappointing? I'd be tickled to find that. The lamp you like is one of those pithy heads. It has a clear whiskey colored outside layer. The pith is about always dead white over the entire 200 mile coral territory. The pithy center looks like it is floating in the chalcedony.
