I figured it out. Took a close look at the backside of the specimen and found what's called dogtooth calcite with hematite I knew there was something familiar about the cleavage where the hematite is layered but couldn't put my finger in it. Thank goodness for Google and my inability to walk away from this thing without knowing what it is

That's a beautiful specimen, transcendental, and nice closeup shot of the hematite in the calcite. Glad you rescued it!

Hubby actually brought it home. Wonderful surprise waiting for me on the back steps. I cleaned it up and put it on the kitchen table. Kept walking over to it and looking it over, walking away, walking back.... it's been like 3 hours of this lol. This thing is huge and every bit of it is just more fascinating than the next.

Can't wait to go with him to this site! I've been waiting 2ish months, our schedules aren't matched up and when they do we have other obligations. I'm getting impatient
