I bought an estate out of Northern California this week and this tumbler came with it. It has no barrels but I have lots of 55 gallon drums and I think I can figure out a way to make tumbler barrels out of a couple of them. Check this baby out! Gonna give it a try anyways! Tony

Yeah gonna have to find a cheap outlet for grit, but I do have a forklift so that part is good! I found cheap grit but after getting it through customs it is not so cheap anymore so I am still looking.

Ya know, if you could get a couple pieces of 24 inch pipe that would be seriously awesome. And loud. Way cool.

Hey Tony I saw a post somewhere about tumbling rocks with just water and no grit. It said they will actually grind and polish themdelves. Probably take forever but look at how much you would take out!

In the tire tumbler I had I just threw in pieces of sandstone. Kept throwing in more pieces as they ground up then just let it go when the real grinding was finished. I am quite sure they would have finished up really good with some final polish because they had a fair polish on them with just the sandstone. REALLY CHEAP LOL. Jim

If you are going to use 55 gallon drums to tumble with an option would be to hinge the top of the barrel so only half of it opens. It might help with the clean & periodic checks because you won't have to lift it to open it, just orient the barrel so that the half that opens faces up and you can them open the barrel to check your progress.
Get yourself a mortar pan, the large one in my opinion would be better, for mixing cement and you can then dump it into the pan when done, clean it out with a hose and contain all the rocks, grit, and sludge in one spot with minimal mess!!

Well someone came along and bought the dang thing. I can't ever seem to be able to hold onto a large tumbler for very long.
