gleeful... pulled another agate out of Huron. Finding agates in this lake is like finding hen's teeth. This one is the best so far. 8 oz multicolored with bands and who knows what else going on here.
no mining a vein when hunting at the Lake, you can only watch for what she offers and there may never be more like it.

Those are the rocks that can get one excited. Just to look at that variation on the outside tells you, that inside is a surprise and totally unknown figure waiting to be released. Find that friend to cut that rock. Tom

Nice find. Has unakite colors. Always so exciting to find something like that.
Have you thought about a tile saw? Less than 100 bucks at most big box stores. With some practice you can roll larger pieces through. I once cut a fist sized geode with mine.

so, I hear that cutting them reduces their valulue... if I were to cut it, where would I even begin? there are all sorts of patterns and tube like structures, swirls, color patches all over this. Maybe surface polishing or just a little off one end? and if I cut it, where would be the best place to cut??? way out of the element of "usual" on this one.

That must be so frustrating. If you cut them you reduce the value but than you always will wonder what could have been exposed if you did. It is like a kid knowing that his Christmas present is in the closet but he can never get to open it. I feel for you, so why don't you just send them over to me so you will not be tempeted. LOL They are really nice Stu

I wonder what is inside...looks like yellow, orange, red, and green to start with. One of those 'avatar' stones probably. How long will you suffer ? There are many miles of pebbles in the big lake. Agate hard to find albeit, but many more.

Wow! Got a lot going on in that one! Looks like some brecciated areas too and sure has lots of color. I think the "cutting reducing value" thingee is mainly with banded agates like Lakers and Fairburns. Cutting improves value on some agates and jaspers as it gives one a better idea what's inside and what stones can be cut from it. You've got to understand this comes from a guy that just has to see what's inside stuff though *L*......Mel

So if it were any of yours to cut, which way would you cut it, on the edge each side? down the middle? then halve that to make quarters? it is big enough to get 4 small slabs, or so.. about 3 inches x3 x3...

Whoo hoooooo!!! I am so happy for you! Personally, I would cut it. I think Mel is right about not wanting to cut the banded lakers. You have to find out what's inside Please share pics if you decide to cut it.

snowmomI think I see a rock saw in your future. Nice find. I think any way you cut a stone like that will yield surprises with each slab. Later. Brent

I would cut one side off big enough to make a cab then turn it 90 degrees and cut another side off. If there is a super side then cut the last that way or stand it on one of the flats and cut it down the middle. You can stop at any point if it turns out to be a better display stone. Jim
BTW, I CUT EVERYTHING

gonna have to give this consideration... I am pretty curious as to what is inside since it does show banding on 2 sides and hints of layers on the others... might make some pretty interesting cabs. thanks everybody, if it gets cut, I'll post the results here!
