Howdy folks,
Rode with the folks with the big ranch down on the Rio Grande this morning. Twenty thousand acres right on the river. I had showed them what to look for in the gravel down there so they'd bring me a sample to see if the collecting is any good. They brought me a five gallon bucket, mostly flint but they did have three nice Rio Grande agate/jasper nodules. Clayton, my buddy says, " Gee I just stopped by a gravel hilltop and picked up a few rocks in just a few minutes. Didn't really hunt hard at all." I still have my invite but he also informed me they have more than a few illegal smugglers and narco traffickers on the ranch and they've been having murders and car jackings nearby. He has to go armed all the time. My wife has already refused to go hunt there and I guess I have to decide if the risk is worth the reward. Considering what we see on the news here, I'm thinking maybe I'll see if Clayton will just gather up some agate to sell me. Anyway, here are pics of the good ones......Mel

Honkin big red and yellow moss/plume nodule:
Best of the lot, a fist sized red one. Viewed from the end it's kind of flower/poppy jasper but viewed the other way, may be red plume or flower garden type agate. Couple of angles:
