Howdy folks, Rode with the folks with the big ranch down on the Rio Grande this morning. Twenty thousand acres right on the river. I had showed them what to look for in the gravel down there so they'd bring me a sample to see if the collecting is any good. They brought me a five gallon bucket, mostly flint but they did have three nice Rio Grande agate/jasper nodules. Clayton, my buddy says, " Gee I just stopped by a gravel hilltop and picked up a few rocks in just a few minutes. Didn't really hunt hard at all." I still have my invite but he also informed me they have more than a few illegal smugglers and narco traffickers on the ranch and they've been having murders and car jackings nearby. He has to go armed all the time. My wife has already refused to go hunt there and I guess I have to decide if the risk is worth the reward. Considering what we see on the news here, I'm thinking maybe I'll see if Clayton will just gather up some agate to sell me. Anyway, here are pics of the good ones......Mel Nice brecciated jasper. Honkin big red and yellow moss/plume nodule: Best of the lot, a fist sized red one. Viewed from the end it's kind of flower/poppy jasper but viewed the other way, may be red plume or flower garden type agate. Couple of angles:

I entered Laredo and got turned around to the wrong side of the tracks about 3 years ago. Felt like tender turkey meat, them is some mean looking dudes in that town.
Carry your hog leg Mel. Vent some frustrations if the smugglers want to play. Hell, they probably have a rifle and you would never know what hit you. That is a shame that you have to worry about such.
Nice agates. Hope you can figure away to collect there. Maybe deer season when guns are out.

James: Yeah, a pistol ain't a lot of good against and AK. Unfortunately, as that would be the safest time to hunt, collecting is not allowed during deer season. Thanks to our dear POTUS's complete and unbelievable incompetence at protecting and closing our borders, that part of Texas is now really dangerous..Mel

Lake Falcon was covered w/DEA. Lake presents a bit off a problem w/crossings. It is well stocked w/agate.

Nice rocks Mel. The hounding is the fun part so getting someone else to do it just doesn't seem right. I'll bet there are enough guns on this forum to take back that ranch if we could get them all there at the same time. Instead of everyone going to Quartzsite we need to meet at Mel's house. Jim

Jim and I'm totally down for wampidy's suggestion, ive got a nice variety of assault weapons.and got a few friends that are retired snipers.sure they wouldn't mind brushing up on some live targets.
