glennz01, it looks like a pretty picture jasper in your pics. Is the material turned over in the last pic? That looks like agate. ??

Nice find and well placed cut on that bottom piece, maybe some non native goodies will show up at the PO and you can trade to get some more of that stuff!!

I have been told its agate by everyone else..... so its agate around the outside with quartz and picture jasper that naturally breaks in slabs?
I only say this because this is one of the only pieces like this... could be the only one in my state that has been collected possibly.... The guy that gave it to me (we broke it with a hammer as we thought it was just crystal geode on the inside not expecting to see that... Note the side where you can see the the layers (which is why local people thought it was agate.
The only thing i am going to do with this natural slabs is maybe polish the faces... I am otherwise not going to do anything else with it unless i get more. I have some smaller pieces in my tumbler but it looks like agate not jasper in my tumbler.... I think i might call it picture agate!
As for the cut that stuff was the crystal / agate layer that was on top of the "picture jasper" as the jasper was layered in between.

Once my polishing pads come i will continue polishing the piece, I might polish the other one as well, not sure what I will do... As it sits it has a low polish...clearly visible scratches.

That is picture rhyolite, not jasper. I'm familiar with the material and where it comes from.

I have to agree with Geoff. The breaks look more like rhyolite breaks than jasper breaks. Jasper fractures look glassy. These not so much.
