After seeing the cabs posted by bsky4463, I decided to cut some Montana nodules with my trim saw and finish off the blade. back of bigger slabs. Slabs off another piece.

Natural fractures dictate the free forms...beauty pieces. Nice opal palette on the larger ones. Now it time to get to cab'n stardiamond. Cheers

The bottom photo with the three slabs-the one on the center left is going to be a killer cab!

The bottom photo with the three slabs-the one on the center left is going to be a killer cab! I think so too. I bought 4 nodules from the same seller on ebay and he was very helpful in what to look for. I took a slice off each piece and have cut four cabs so far. One of the nodules was listed as tubes and it has tubes all the way through. The second from the left on the first picture reminded me of what can happen. There's a cartoon where a tree goes through the milling process and comes out as one toothpick. I cut slices from the nodule until I had something with the right scene, trimmed the shaky parts away and then made a preform that quickly shattered. All I have left is that one slab from the nodule. One pear shaped cab I cut had three fracture lines but held together.

That is one of the most elegant rocks to my taste. Last pic, top right slab, looks like there's an eagle in the top left swooping down.

LOL,I show my Montana slabs to people and they always say,wow "its fractured",I can't work those"..Than I think to myself, hummm, must not be a good cabber with no imagination either!!! My Uncles told me long ago that Montanas are a forgiving stone, but better to do it right the first time around.. Can't wait to get some equipment to start cabbing... As of this time,I have my Montanas tucked away for my future use,and only give a few to some choosen few friends.. Love seeing photos of Montanas on this forum, gets the blood pumping...Thumbs up
