QuailRiver 's link in his post about birdseye rhyolite led me to research Paesina - ruin marble from Italy. That led me to this video. Cheers

watching that guy I just came up with a killer idea for dopping a stone
a magnetic base dop stick with an attached magnet on the back of the stone
guess you could use double sided tape to adhere the magnet to the back of the stone or some sort tick tack adhesive
another experiment

Enjoyed the vid you posted, bsky4463! That's some pretty material and the patterns in it sometimes looked like inlay. Funky! Thanks for sharing! I agree, Ed, maybe try some magnetic strips that have adhesive, and stick one to the dop, then the stone?

Yeah their methods are cool, different - more production oriented. That dop stick is way cool, does look magnetic with a rim for holding the circular cabs. I wish there were more vids out there of artists working stone..... Cheers

I may be wrong but it looked like he put a slight dome on that circular cab by using the periphery of the wheel or it may have been ground flat hard to tell
But with that method it does look looks like a slight dome could be ground on the stone its very cool
That setup is something I envision for grinding the flats on my hearts. Something like a surface grinder with the stone chucked in a vice. Incremental grind removal with true precise flats.
As side note: I experiment with the magnetic dop technology Its a big hassle ….mostly

it's beautiful rock at an extreme price. according to the Antonelli site it is still being mined in the mountains in Italy. Expensive, but probably worth it too!
