This Opal Butte t-egg was an ebay steal, umm, I mean find - this half weighs in at 9lbs 6.5oz and contains all of the inner pocket of what looks to be - well, I don't know what the right name is - I'd say bytroidal opally something or other - I'm always game for learning the correct terminology so please educate me The local rockshop cut the original 22lb specimen for me, the other half appears to be solid with no other big pockets- anyway- on to the pics!! Face cut closeup Exterior closeup Thanks for looking, Gene

That thing looks like it would have a very nasty bite. Based on the crushing style teeth in that mouth I bet it eats snails or clams or similar... nice piece and good job on the buy!!

there is a really nice on on ebay right now. 38 pounds and is half the egg. So, then I have to ask.
when does a thunderegg become a "lens"? Or is it always a thunderegg if there is an obvious hollow cavity filled with gem material?

or does it become a geode? kind of like the line drawn between chalcedony, jasper, agate... I'm thinking the line wobbles a bit.
