Love that coral. Amazing to watch how the rocks change as they progress through the grinding steps, isn't it? Great photos.

Those are awesome corals, jamesp! The second one kinda looks like a limb cast. Lots of root casts there Jan-mangrove root casts. 1/4 to 1 inch thick and usually finger size. Oyster casts too, bunches of them.

Wow, the mangrove root cast is beautiful. Have you just polished the ends of any of them that you've collected, jamesp?

The mangrove casts are a bit variable, but mostly a solid fill with a bark looking texture. Shallow siderastrea coral, oysters and mangrove roots all exist together and that is what you find. And not much else. Locals make necklaces out of them.

Have you looked into the band saws or would it not be practical for what you have in mind.

Have you looked into the band saws or would it not be practical for what you have in mind. Spirit, whatever saw could cut without chipping any on entrance and exit of cut. That usually means slow feed, lubrication, small diamond grit and mounted in a vice as it gets cut. Perhaps a plain high quality thin jeweler's circular saw with a power feed. Or just a well made trim saw w/power feed and lub w/preferably an 8 inch blade.

It would be interesting to see how those would look if put in a vibe just as they are. I would think that with a 50 / 50 mix of that coral and small ceramics they would shine over most of each piece.

Curious about that to tk. Right now there are no smalls, all big stuff. So the high spots are get ground the most. Mainly for the reason to see what color is under the white coating. Smalls will reach in the divots if added. But a vib would really do the job and I wonder what the surface would be like.

I am not sure what I am more impressed with, your coral or your photography. Both are great. I know it takes a lot of time to post that many pictures and to write up the post so I thank you for that.
