After looking through the hundreds of cabs I have to choose from I realized that I am going to have to make cabs differently if I plan to use them for groove wrapping. I normally cab with a small girdle and high dome but the space needed to add the groove is going to mean a taller girdle and slightly smaller dome. I cabbed this one this morning and just finished the groove wrap. I do not see a lot of room for variation in the creation of the bails so this will probably be the norm for me. Thanks for looking Chuck

Looks great Chuck. This will give you a variation on bails and people really seem to like them. I have had the same problem with the edges of the stone but it is pretty easy to grind the edge down so it is wider, especially when you have a high dome. The one on the bottom right is a good example because it has a very bad edge. Jim

I think this looks great, but your first one did, too. I didn't have much luck with doing this. I kept chipping the stones. I know I need to cab differently for any success, but I just lost my enthusiasm for it.

Cheap fake gold that I do not remember where it came from. I twist silver, copper and tried some two tone (gold and black) wire that came out pretty nice. Yesterday I showed the, two different wire, wrap to a lady who had a booth at a Homesteader Festival (she does very good wire wrap and silver work) and she picked it out of the bunch first thing. Told me she really liked it.
I really like the groove wrapping because they are a snap to do. Fast and easy if you have a good grooving machine. Mine is "so so" (another drill press set up) but it gets the job done. I think I need to get another drill press so I do not have to do so much switching around from one job to another. Jim

junque, if you make the first couple of passes really light and make sure you are cutting into the stone instead of cutting out of the stone (if that makes any sense) you will have better luck. If I am remembering right the round edge cutter seemed to chip less also. Jim

Chuck, that looks great! With such beautiful cabs a lot of fancy loops are not always necessary. My opinion anyway.
