One of my buddies and I hit the Willamette River yesterday and hunted it hard with five hours of hounding.... He did really good on a 10 pound piece of petwood and I scored on two nice pieces of rock... Plus between us we collected over 40 pounds of other rock, jaspers, agates and petwood....Will cleam them up today and get some photos..To pooped to do anything lastnite-LOL.......................... Here is my Carnelian agate with opal.....Biggest one I have found so far... Here is my petwood find...Might just shave him and display it in my collection...

Ahh, the mighty Willamette, my old stomping grounds. Awesome finds fossilman! Makes me want to go out and hunt for some Carnelian now! That's one of the nicest specimens I've seen in awhile, and that creamy Opal center makes it look like a confectionery treat. Nice haul!

Awesme! That carnelian is humongous. If I found one that big I'd bout pee my pants.....Mel I was with another hounder,he was digging in a gravel pile,I was finished walking the gravel beds,so was just waiting for him to finish up.. I started walking the waters edge and seen just a glimmer of an agate, picked it up and let out a rebel yell!!! LMAO.. James came running over and asked what the hell?? I showed him and he cussed a few words, high fived me and went back to his hole.. About a minute later I scored that petwood, another rebel yell,he yells back "AH"!!!!!! LOL We left that area and we went to his favorite rock area..(this area was my fav. area) He started digging his hole and I was walking the gravel bed area, and he lets out a few choice words and a rebel yell,I go headed over there and he is holding up a huge piece of petwood!!! So we both scored a great day....Thumbs up Here is James find..A nice chunk of petwood..

You did well, some very nice, and sizable, finds. It's hard to beat the Willamette for variety.

Beautiful piece of Carnelian Fossilman! How long have you been in the PWN? We moved here about 13 years ago, spent a year in Eugene then moved to Vancouver, WA. Just got into collecting a few years back, looking forward to more outings

Beautiful piece of Carnelian Fossilman! How long have you been in the PWN? We moved here about 13 years ago, spent a year in Eugene then moved to Vancouver, WA. Just got into collecting a few years back, looking forward to more outings Five years this October....Loving it too!!!!! Cool! I do a lot of travel for work, log about 35k miles a year in the PNW. Hard to do much hounding other than river collecting though I don't seem to have the eye for it yet. Have brought home a bunch of Jasper along with some god knows what, very little agate. I hear that Carnelian is plentiful in our area but haven't figured that out yet. Might be that I am just not getting remote enough, drive a Civic so I am limited in where I can go. Had some luck on the way home from John Day but again, mostly Jasper and what I take to be a Serpentine but could be wrong. Don't have a history of rockhounding to draw from. Anyhow, glad you are finding the PNW agreeable

Hell, swing by once.I'll take you out to some nice areas to hound.... An offer I will gladly take you up on, possibly sooner than you think I assume its best to hit it before the rain kicks into gear? Pretty sure the closest I have been hounding to your area is the Stayton, Oregon area. Just did some hounding in the gravel beds near the bridge right there in town. Wasn't the most productive experience but again, its pretty accessible and likely had been thoroughly picked over...or I just don't know what to look for
