These are grits that i have tried in the past as additives to silicon carbide grit and will see if they can hold their own. photographs will follow after batches are done with stage 1
Grits with high potential
Tungsten Carbide (using only tungsten carbide as grit, starting 1 week 2.5 day grind with 12 lb capacity)
Grits with possible additive helping abilities but not as solo grit coal slag (from sand blasting)
Grits that have no effect after trials Garnet media (from sand blasting) Sand (I have not used it for rock but all of the properties of sand, and those who I know tried it have not had luck), However sand works great as grit when removing rust and corrosion off of metal items as does pea gravel.
My 12 lb barrel spins at 15 RPM My 40 lb barrel spins at 30 RPM

I saw this saw on your website Glenn. Is this yours ? I am mesmerized by the simple design. Sorry to be out of topic.

Yep its mine, I also have a nelson i need to rewire (but works great). That saw cuts fast as it is gravity fed. I have oil in it now and I would like another hood part to cover the open space in order to not lose a lot of oil. To note i got both saws for free although that 16 inch one took a lot of work to get it functional.

I agree about the cover, none the less it is about the most clever saw I have ever seen. A doable home built type of design.

Please note that this info is several months old and I may change things significantly in the coming weeks. So wait!! Are you planning a tutorial or a work in progress? Just wonderin'.

This will always be a work in progress as I try new things. The first tumbling method I mentioned may not change much . I will add other methods that I do, but that method I have now retired, same basic principles though.

It's good to experiment. Maybe this is more journal and less tutorial. A valuable tool for you.

Me personally.. I think a tutorial should be proven methods explained and the ol' RTH tumbling tutorial is hard to beat. I appreciate the fact you are willing to share your methods but it seems you are still perfecting them so maybe a tutorial at this point is jumping the gun a bit. Hopefully you wont read this in a negative way.. I dont mean to discourage you from sharing here.

My methods are improvements of the basic tumbling methods everyone uses, granted some can only be done in large tumblers like mine most likely
