Went to a rock pick up in San Diego last Saturday, ended up bringing home about half a ton of some really neat stuff. Here's just a few of the pics I took.
Home owner and benefactor in back, and some folks from our rock club.
They made me sit in the fenced in area so I wouldn't hurt anyone, lol. Anita (was at Quartzsite in January) on far right.
It was actually the best seat in the house, and I later had people fighting me for it, once they saw what I was finding!
Home with the swag
Started to unload in the heat of the day. Finished emptying the truck on Sunday. I'm still sorting it!
This was the find of the day - a good sized hunk of peanut obsidian.
Beautiful!
A woman there offered to trade me her husband for it, lol.
Unknown 1. Got a lot of agates of unknown origin.
Parral dendritic agate? Correction - Balmorhea agate suggested
Crazy lace
More lace agate
Got a few hunks of labradorite Larvakite
Moss agate
Sagenitic something?
Crystally growth in basalt (too soft to cut or cab)
Nipomo agate, or maybe just a moss agate
Unknown 2 agate Blackskin agate? Unknown 3 agate
Unknown 4. Cady? Lavic?
Unknown 5. Brecciated something or other... Stone Canyon suggested
Unknown 6. Gold colored dendrites
One piece of psilomelane
One gorgeous chunk of tigereye
Unknown 7
Unknown 8, looks like confetti
I believe these are Hampton Butte pet wood.
Just a few more. Unknown 9 Maybe agatized wood?
Unknown 10. Green
Unknown 11. This one is cool, swirly
Unknown 12.
Unknown 13 Purple, maybe Burro Creek? (What do you think, Tommy?)
Biggs? Or Deschutes?
Coral/petosky?
Red horn coral
The pile
Back row buckets - 2 left ones Rainbow Ledge, right one is agates Front two are pet. wood, including AZ Rainbow wood, and opalized wood
Agates on left, different types. Some halved fortification agates, and (mostly) halved amygdules on right, also some Apache Tears.
Also got a lot of pretty obsidian, picture jasper, bird's eye jasper, wonderstone, dumortierite, and lots of other stuff I don't have a clue! Also got a boxful of various slabs as well. Still sorting, if I come across anything particularly amazing, I'll add it to the post.
If anyone wants to see all the pics so far, here's a link to the album on Photobucket.
Thanks for looking!
Edit to add: Please feel free to help me with the names! I'm certainly no expert.

Your unknown #2 looks a lot like some Balmorhea agate I have. #5 might be stone canyon jasper.
Killer haul BTW! And I didn't even know peanut obsidian was a thing, let alone an awesome thing like that!

Wow, Jean!!!!!! I'm so jealous of your peanut obsidian! Well, all of it, actually. Nice haul!! You look so serious about it, too. Ya got right on in there. I think your labradorite is larvakite- Norwegian moonstone (feldspar). Could be wrong, but that's what it looks like.

Thanks, blackout, you may be right on both counts. I thought the second one might be a variation of Horse Canyon, the first one I had no idea
Tela, I knew the peanut obsidian would turn your head, lol. It makes that tiny piece I posted a while back look like doo doo. I also thought larvakite when I saw that other, someone there told me it was labradorite - didn't think so. Funny how these sales are full of people that know everything, lol.
I don't know what that green/gold rock is, but I thought it was cool as well. I do know it is pretty hard, and somewhat fine grained. (Tela, thanks for checking out the rest of the pics
It was a really sweet sale, especially when you consider it was only 25 miles away, and... it was a "Free Rock Sale!" (© Shotgunner!). Like most parties we go to, we were the first to arrive, and the last to leave.

It's taken me this long just to sort some of it out, clean the dirt and rat shit off it, take some pics and post it! Ah, the truck did fine. We were there for 5 1/2 hours. how much did you pay for it all? Sorry, you posted while I was typing. It was all FREE!!!!! Glenn, I know you have not been here long, but stick around, and you will find that I am the most frugal (read, tight, penny pinching, etc. etc.) rock hoarder around! I somehow just luck into the deals and steals. I'm running out of room for it all.
Thanks, Jim and Russ. There's so much more, I've only skimmed the top of it. I've still got the big agates that are soaking, and also some thundereggs that have been halved. Will have to get those cleaned up yet (When it cools down just a little).

Yeah! Nice score. Is peanut OB the same as firecracker? Raising my hand.... I know, I know... As a fan and owner of both, no, they are not the same. They do look similar in pictures, but not in person. The peanut obsid has some chatoyance in the "stars" and they are not true red like my fire cracker is.

Thanks, spiritstone. What Tela said.
I have taken a buttload of pics of the obsidian I picked up. Some plain Jane, mahogany, lots of rainbow, some sheen and some ribbon. I'll get the pics uploaded next week, post a few and a link.
