This is a piece of “Two Islands Agate” from Parrsboro, NS that I bought at the annual Rock & Gem Show. It is characterized by a light to deep blue chalcedony center with golden and red plumes being pulled towards the center. The best examples form a golden and/or red flame agate. Had it been a little earlier in the year, and had we been a little braver, Laura and I may have been able to find this material, but we didn’t. However, we did meet a new rock buddy that gave us this piece that was either collected by him, or his father when he was young. That puts the find at least 40 years ago. New rock buddy also gave us this “old” piece which has some flame potential. I can’t wait to get the rough crust cut off to see a clean slice. This is a crusty nodule that I plucked out of the cliff face. Technically, you are not permitted to do that, but it was loose and presented a fall hazard. I’m always looking out for the safety of others when collecting. Grin! It’s ugly on the outside, but shows some potential beneath the crust where I knocked a few chips off. I stubbed my toe on this piece of jasper and kicked it out of the sand. The whitish diagonal band and the white speckles in the red matrix are actually Hyalite Opal. Under SW ultraviolet light, these areas light up a bright green. I’ll set up my camera for some dark room UV photography once I get over the urge to run my saw. I’ll run my saw once I get over the urge to rock hound. Seeing that I won’t get over my urge to rock hound until the snow covers them, those photos may be a while. Darryl.

Looks like the Mojave Desert has some competition. Nova Scotia wins. The Mojave has no ducks!

Some nice raw material you found, hope to see some finished out of it. We also appreciate that you place the safety of others high on your priority list.

That is some cool stuff. I really like seeing other folks local rocks. And, yeah, I laughed at your sequence of events. May as well get out while you can, we've already had our first snow. Looking forward to those pics, though.
