Nice intensity of colour in those red jaspers. Looks like they are already beach or river polished.

They are all wet still, If i am going to tumble it i still put everything in my rough grit. Almost everything i picked up is lapidary worthy if its large enough excluding the white agates... Or i took it to cut it as it might have potential... When you have access to an atv and can put your stuff in crates you tend to be less picky as if you just had a backpack... There was much more jasper there but it was darker colors and if i wanted it i could pick it up all day long
I wish i had an atv that could go through the rivers... artic cat mud pro works the best... some other atvs i have been on if they were lighter like to go down the river some.

Looks like a great day of hounding, and just remember - not every one has access to any Alaska jaspers or other goodies, and you can't trade what you don't have on hand or easily accessible so keep that in mind next time you have the atv to do the carrying for you.

lovely jaspers! So many deep deep reds! Nice variety of other stuff, too. Good hunting by you! Each area has its own charms. Looks like you are wealthy in Jaspers. Those are fairly rare here in the land of limestone and fossils. I'd love to see pictures of all the kinds of jaspers you can find there... bet it is a color rich rainbow! I hear you about back packers having to be choosy. I am learning to be much more selective as I hound. Time was I'd pick up every conglomerate and pudding stone I met. Now I leave them lay unless they are really colorful and I don't have one like it already. I do admit to picking up almost every breccia though (they are much more rare and varied here). Keep posting your finds, I love seeing what people find in their own areas!

I'll post some pics of AK jasper sometime... probably in the tumbling thread... There is also one thing in the area that i am going to start calling ball jasper... i only brought one home but there is a lot more in that area... always in sphere things.

very nice! lovely the way they are, but I know many people would cut them. Those would give satisfaction just to look at and handle the way they are. I like that top one the best, it hints at something really unique hidden inside!

Love the red & green ones, especially the red snake on the one. I'm a cutter. I almost always have to pop it in the saw to see what the slabs look like. It's cool to see what Alaska has to offer!
