Getting through the pile - slowly - sorting and cleaning. Trying to put like with like. Since these came from someone's backyard, I don't know what most of them are, nor do I have location info for them.
What the pile looked like yesterday
Today
Yeah, I know, it doesn't look much different. Now have to put stuff away before tackling more.
Well, here's just a few picks of the pet wood I washed up today. I'll also put a link at the end of this post to the slide show on Photobucket, for anyone that wants to see more of the pics. Will number these pics for ease of referencing them
1. Two buckets of wood - Opalized wood 2. AZ Rainbow wood
3. Bigger chunks soaking
4a. A few individuals
4b. Same chunk of wood, back side
5. Like the grain on this one
6. This one is colorful
7.
8. A couple more with nice grain
9.
10. Like the clear whisky colored areas with wood grains against the peanut brittle color
11. Some Hampton Buttes
12.
13.
14. Maybe Hampton Butte, not sure
15a. This big one (10 pounds?) is my favorite
15b. A couple more views. Back side
15c. And what's hiding beneath the faded exterior?
It is blue inside, cool.
16. Not wood, but here's a bucket full of thundereggs from the haul, most cut some not.
17. Tipsy!
See the chip missing at the bottom right? This one has much brighter color inside.
Okay, that's all I'm posting for now. If you want to see the rest of the pet woods, click HERE for the slideshow.
Thanks for looking. More to come as I get through that pile! Jean

Okay Jean, since you are giving them away, I will take # 9. LOL. To a guy that loves petwood, those are gorgeous. And for free??? Wow that must be fun to go thru them during the day. One of my favorite things is to come home from a good hounding trip and then spending the next day (or two) just washing and seeing what I got. And your piles are already high graded!!! Be sure to post pics of some slabs from them.

You got a lot of nice woodies there Jean. Since you got them for free can you....just kidding. Jean like a fox in a chicken house, easy pickins. Those black pans come in handy.

wow, what a show. I had no idea before I started hanging around this forum just how many different forms petwood can take. Jean, you must have got a piece of most of them! What a haul! Wonderful! I can hardly wait to see what else is in that pile. I want to thank you for going to the trouble of taking so many photos and setting them up for us to share, wonderful, and very time consuming along with all your sorting work. Fun, yes, but still work. Keep the pictures coming, they are greatly appreciated!

All good looking pieces, and worthy of a ride home in the back of your truck.
It's lots of fun to go through a pile of rocks especially when they are all yours.
Enjoy!

6/ Will be a delight to cut with subtle variations of browns, yellow, etc. 8/ Has growth rings but a wonderful texture that seems to reflect palm. 9/ Has that 3 color layering of opalized wood. Its soft and has one fracture that could cause problems when cut, but it polishes nicely. 10/ Some of those caramel colors in pet wood are just about priceless even when just polished by mother nature. Can you tell I like wood, and enjoy the prowl through last month's buckets almost as much as the initial search and collection process. Tom
