Howdy folks, still have a couple to trim but most these I'll freeform as they are just too nice to make into calibrated stones. All self collected and all from George West, Texas area. Mostly palm and shrinkwood with one rare pocket rot (dino bone) wood....Mel

Great preforms, Mel. Those will make some swell non-calibrated cabs. (I prefer free form cabs, too.). Can't go wrong with woods!

ok explain the pocket rot dino bone? Do you mean the wood resembles dino bone by the way it deteriorated and filled cells? Can't wait to see close ups!

Yep, Pocket rot wood simply has enough decomposition of the wood cellular structure so as to leave little pockets that are often filled with chalcedony. The final product, if the pockets are highly developed, looks very much like dino bone. If not real fully developed, it just looks like wood with pockets *L*. Here's a pic of the pocket rot wood which is not heavily pocketed. And here's the only cab I've cut from this stuff so far. This one is really decomposed and has a ton of pockets so really resembles bone.
