I got sick and tired of looking at my white walls which my kids destroyed with fingerprints and god knows what else. The paint that was on the walls I'm fairly certain was just a primer because every time I attempted to wash them the paint would start coming off. So I scrubbed the heck out of them, went down to home depot and bought paint and supplies to paint the livingroom with a more washable paint that would also help hide any dirt.
Why is it that one simple project some how manages to become a huge to do list?
Painted the walls and started the trim an off white which became washed out by the more saturated brown on the walls, took it back to home depot to have it darkened and it ended up looking pink. I don't want pink trim with brown walls. Took it back and had it darkened to be a tinted primer for a whole new gallon of orange paint. It was too orange, and I had already gone thru so much hastle over this stupid trim that I decided to sponge over the orange with a darker brown I had gotten to paint a silhouette tree and add familly photos on the wall with no furniture
Here comes project #2: picture frames, which would have ended up costing me about $70 to find enough that matched each other and my decor. Found some free wood (an old privacy fence) on Craigslist, brought it home and made frames for $30. Still need to put them on the wall but at least they are done. Waiting to get together with my mother in law to go thru her old photos and get copies of a couple and make them sepia tone to complete this project.
Project #3: while I was painting the livingroom I decided what the hell let's paint the kitchen while I'm at it. So while I was staining and varnishing the frames I painted the kitchen
Project #4: while I was painting the kitchen my oldest son walks over to the tree I did, took a good hard look at it and comes back over to me and says " mom I love your tree, can you do one in my room". Back of my mind I'm thinking "kid I doubt you want a tree in your room" but I'm glad he likes it. So I continue painting the kitchen and thinking to myself, if he really wants me to paint something in his room I can do a heck of a lot better than the silhouette of a tree.... so I looked into what it would take to mount a canvas on the wall in the room our bedroom is in while we finish the upstairs (just needs a carpet). Once we are upstairs the boys will move into the bigger room and I can paint a mural on mounted canvas in there. Then I started thinking if they get older and want to keep it I can't split a 5x8 canvas between the two kids so this thing has to be a subject that I won't mind keeping once they move out (ie not trucks and trains) and I can do 2 smaller canvases, one for each of them to go above their beds on the opposite wall that they can keep. I stated stock piling the supplies necessary for the project and didn't mean to start it right away but my cat died and I needed to do something to keep my mind off it. So now I have the start of a a dinosaur themed bedroom for the boys.
Trex and Deinonychus on 24x30 inch canvases.
I think once this is all done I'm never going to want to see a paintbrush ever again. Just letting you all know I havent vanished, just been busy. Gone into lurker mode temporarily
