Howdy folks, Finished washing and sorting the Rios from this week and took a few pics. Still pretty far from filling boxes for Matty and Parker. Want to make sure to have some real good ones to put in. may have to fill out the boxes from my own stash of too- big- for- my- saw nodules unless I can get down to the ranch to help them collect. *L* Need to have them bring back several hundred pounds, not just a few. Anyway, a couple of pics. My favorite that may head for my saw this afternoon or tomorrow, five pounds, fracture free and red moss and plume with what looks to be blue agate. May have to slice the loaf in sections so I can reorient for a lengthwise cut. Pic is washed out. This is bright bright red agate. Very intense in person. This is the largest of the lot and super nice stuff. Golden filament moss with lots of agate. Unfortunately, when I washed off the mud it is fractured into several large sections. Don't think it will come apart in the saw and still plenty of good clean areas for cabs. Dave, you've got first dibs for your box and if no one wants it, I'll break it along the fractures to fit my ten inch saw cause this is a good agate. Another nice moss agate: Finally, Clayton was looking for arrowheads and picked up a bunch of small Rio Grande stuff on the mound so I'm working on a box of tumbler stuff. Mostly three inches and under and some suitable for trim saw cabs. Very colorful material. I'll probably throw in my own Rio end caps and heels to help the kids out. Oops, forgot the Rio Grande poppy. This one is small and fractured but I'm still gonna try to get a slab cause all y'all knows how much I like poppies.....Mel

Good stuff.. Cant wait to see some slabs! And good work turning Matty and Parker into rock hounds.. I bet the extra pocket money they get will be incentive enough for them to stick with it for years to come since that will be their land one day.

Vugs, Their grandparents do have another ranch down that way but I had misunderstood the situation on this one. My friends don't own this ranch but manage and run the hunting leases for a quartet of uber rich families. They get access to the Indian mounds and rocks with the owners OK. The owners are strictly cattle ranchers and apparently don't care about the ugly piles of rocks and such all over *L*. These pebble pups are not a couple of rich kids, just kids of regular old working ranch folks. Their folks also do taxidermy and horse training and I met the wife when she was my horseback instructor and a part time wrangler for our ranch.....Mel

Yeah, pretty cool job but a lot of driving back and forth, especially during deer season. They're a great couple that are still riding buddies of mine and the kids are incredible....Mel
