Howdy folks, Barely got my ten inch saw blade through this one. Was actually a bit tall for the blade so the edge of the kerf went below the top of the agate. Saw was really straining and the power feed overheated after cut two so I had to finish it the next day. Well worth the trouble though and easily one of the best Rios I've ever cut. Super glassy, no pits or fractures and a mix of flowery stuff with gorgeous red/gold plumes along the bottom, Never seen this kind of plume except in Bloody Basin , AZ material. Here are a few pics which seem a bit overexposed and lighter in color on my screen than when in hand. If I tilt my laptop screen back a bit it shows a truer color...Mel The three cuts I got: Closer shots of a couple, plume along the bottom.

VERY nice, love the colors! Before anyone else has their wife come in and ask why you are tilting your monitor around and knocking stuff over - not that that happened anywhere around here lowering your head towards the desk top has the same effect. Not that I tried it or anything like that...

WOW! That is some BRIGHT rock, gorgeous!
(Yeah, I think the head tilt is a little easier.)

Dang, lowering mah haid, who woulda thunk it *L*. Yep, that does do the same thing. Guess all y'all have figured out by now that told to weigh a 300 pound rock on one side of the room on a fifty pound scale on the other side of the room, I'm the doofus who drags the rock over to the scale instead of the lighter scale over to the rock. *L*
I put "Big Red" the big red moss/plume into the vice today and managed to get me off four slabs for my own use before it got too big for my saw and glazed the blade. Solid as all get out and no fractures. I only got to cut off about a third of it and I'll take some pics tomorrow morning then throw it in the box of Rios I'm getting together to sell for the kids.....Mel

glazed the blade. Solid as all get out and no fractures. The bad news and the good news... I really commend you for helping those kids out! I only have one thing to say -

Gorgeous. So funny that I immediately lowered my head from the monitor and saw the slabs get "prettier".
Don't forget to slab and post pics of "Blue Moss" too Is it okay to be naming rocks?

Glazed blade is really no big problem, though it does require me to remove the workpiece and take a couple of cuts through a grinding stone to expose more diamond before I do anymore cutting. I mainly just have to stop cutting on agates way too big for a ten inch saw *L*. But, dang I wanna see what's inside everything.
Really like helping out kids in general but man these two little'uns are exceptionally smart, polite, inquisitive, and well brought up youngsters. And their folks are really awesome people too and very good friends and neighbors. The mom trained two of my favorite horses too, Hopper and Gunner and all ya'll know how much I love horses. IMHO it takes good folks to train good horses *S*.
Mark, Not sure I know which one"blue moss" is *L*. Big red has some blue agate though it's mainly in shades of red..Mel

Man oh man. My buddy Clayton just rolled into my yard from his ranch with another big pile of Rio Grande agate. He's getting good at the hunt now ( He took along some cut samples I gave him). Probably 70% of what he found are keepers including a whopping big, beautiful red and blue moss that is long and skinny and will fit my ten inch saw and a monster moss with fortifications that is too big for my saw. Got a small orbicular ocean jasper looking one too. I'm gonna set aside the ones too big for my saw to sell for his pebble pups, Matty and Parker. Ranch kids don't have a lot of opportunity to make spare money and if you've access to good agate, what the heck. I cut another one of the new Rios today and it's probably one of the nicest Rios I've ever cut. Glassy as all get out too. I'll take some photos tomorrow if I get time to wash and sort everything....Mel You mentioned the "whopping big, beautiful red and blue moss". Is the one shown above, it?
