When I first saw this, opal in myolite matrix came to mind (Wyoming rock) but after looking at my pics I am sitting on the fence. I found these two pieces near Greybull then spotted a piece in the Greybull museum which is where I got the name. The color is quite different but such is the way with rocks. I have a pic of the museum piece somewhere. I will post it if you want but it looks exactly like these two pieces. Jim

We have similar stuff in our marine chert deposits here on the ranch. Some of ours even have druze associated with the silica in the pockets. I've always thought it was some kind of pseudomorph after coral as some sure do look like coral heads. Some look like big heads of cauliflower too. However, I've never found any with any real structural replacement that would confirm they were fossils......Mel

Kinda looks like Stromatalite that's not completely agatized. I know that John herchenx and I came across a lot of different ones with varying degrees of 'agatization' out in Southern Wyoming! (Hah! I love when I make up new words!!) Some of the fossils were just chalky limestone and some are beauties. ~Roland

My first thought was stromatolite too.

I saw a similar rock in my handbook I've been looking through and it looks like Tourmaline Pegmatite. Don't quote me on that, I'm still learning.
