Gettin' close to time to start things back up. While the calendar might say it's Fall, that's not the case here in Florida and especially in my garage. Was puttering around out there this afternoon, checking the oil and kicking tires so to speak, and it's hot in there! Why, yes, I could open the garage door, but no one has told the mosquitoes that it's Fall yet either. They don't bother me, but the wife unit goes out there and woe unto me if she gets bit up! But soon! I'm actually waiting on a load of Dallasite from BCrockhound (no hurry Stew!) and while dusting/checking everything, I found most of the tumbler belts broke even though they had been taken off the pulleys during the down time. Just ordered a bunch of 'em from Rock Shed. Anyway, here's the shop, all cleaned up and ready to get dirty once again. I gotta remember to take pictures at the end of the season next year. Hopefully, in another week or so it won't be 85° anymore and the mosquitoes will ease up some. I'm ready to get started

Thanks all, it won't look like that next spring! I just clean everything up once my "season" is over so it doesn't look like a bomb went off in the garage and it's ready to go next time. Figure if I get hit by a bus or sumtin' it will be easier for others to deal with cleaned up.

Awesome setup! That looks like my dream workshop. Do you go with the Thumler rotaries out of preference over the Lortones, or another reason? Honoured to help put some of it to use.

Hey Stew, to answer your question on why Thumler over Lortone, I read a bunch of reviews and anything else I could find on both before buying and simply picked Thumler by a hair. The larger barrel - 15# over 12# may have helped, as well as I liked the position of the motor mount. The Thumler motor is more exposed to fresh air, and seems to be out of the way of any type of blow out. The Lortone motors are encased and in my hot garage that didn't seem like a good idea. I've never used Lortone, as I (obviously) went all in with Thumler. I'm sure Lortone is also a quality machine. Here's another example of what comes from over thinking everything - must be the old Boy Scout in me. These are the trays the tumblers sit in. Built the forms which the tumblers fit exactly down on so they can't move at all. And they are in these tupperware type bins in case of any leakage - which I've never experienced. But, with their location over top of those motors etc, I figured a catch basin kinda thing would be prudent. These are from 2008 when I first got into the tumbling aspect. Ya'll think a clean shop is odd, I'll have to do a thread someday on the swimming pool I built in my back yard for my dogs. That story, well now THAT'S entertainment! For some more captbob goofiness, here's a thread from 2008 when I got my HP24 saw. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/21417/eagle-hp-landed-lots-photosAt least I keep myself amused!

The only time our little shop was that clean was about one second before we started using it, and we do really try to keep it up. Lookin' good.

looks like a wonderful setup, hope we see more as the season goes on, I'm in the process of shutting down and cleaning up, it will be nice to see what you are up to while I'm sitting here waiting for warm weather again. Love the pool, lucky lucky dogs...

I went with the Lortones because that's all the stores around here have but I've been pretty unimpressed with them for the price. I have a Thumler vibe and the quality feels much higher so I'm looking to get a Thumler rotary now. Thanks for your input!

Great set up. I needed to see this.
I've been overwhelmed after knee surgery, and wanted to find a way to condense everything without creating a worse nightmare in the process.
This helps me get some ideas of how I could untangle some of my mess and have everything in one place.
I can't carry stuff around for the crutches I'm forced to use for the next 5 weeks, but I'll use this as my springboard for planning what I intend to do.
Great job and great space, thanks again for sharing.

Really like your tidy shop set-up and how you have your Thumlers sitting in case of spills, captbob. ROFL, Love the dog pool and the pic of your Rottie taking a dip.

Cleaning and closing my shop for the winter also- except for the rotary Lortone tumblers, which I run year-round. I cover with a way oversized plastic container, keeps things warm enough from the motor- no freeze-ups to date. Now I'll admit, washing rocks in between grits can be a bit knuckle-numbing, but I use my diving gloves for this now. Love your clean & tidy workshop!

Love your overall setup & I really like the separate cabbing stations - what type of grinders are those?
