Howdy folks, Reoriented one of my Rio heels and cut a couple more slabs off it and also hacked into a couple more small pieces. Here are some pics.....Mel The plume I cut more off of: Small fractured one but the clear area has some nice plume. I knew this one was not agate, just some sort of jasper but I cut it just cause I was curious as to what was inside. Kind of ehhh.

Does the white undercut? I picked up some beautiful yellow/red/white plume when I was at Stillwell Ranch. The stuff is really pretty but the white undercuts so bad I don't have the patience to get a good dome. Lots of great materials in the gravels along the Rio Grande/Big Bend areas.

John, Nope, the blue and the white are very hard chalcedony so do not undercut. If any undercutting occurs, it is usually in the plume or moss that can sometimes have the oxides not be fully infused with silica which makes them softer than the surrounding agate....Mel

I like that bottom one a lot! Its got a lot going on in its own way. love the red matrix between the white... pretty interesting the way it brecchiated. interrupted water level lines in there near the middle. not plumes, but hey, not so bad either!

The variety in the Rio material is amazing.
