Very cool piece!! The leaf scars definitely help with envisioning what it once looked like.

Explain that thing to me Brad. Is that more than one cycad ? Im no expert but I haven't heard anything about it being more than one cycad. Might be squished a little. I don't know for shure though. Probaby could get a 100 different opinions on this thing.

I don't know a whole lot about this thing. The 'scars' are left when the leaves fall off. Maybe it is a group of small cycads. At ground level, and the shiny round things are the trunks. The round things look similar to a cycad cross section. Or it is the top of the trunk where the leaves branch out. The leaves or fronds.In the 2nd photo, looks like the crown on top of the trunk.

And as you go deeper into the specimen you would come to the trunk under the floret of fronds maybe Trunk cross section:

Yep, looks like the top of the trunk where the fronds radiate out. betcha Young ones are at ground level

there are a bunch of different varieties when it comes to the cycad. I think like 300+. The ones you showed photos of look very similar to the petrified one I have. The frond things are what make this one a bit 'rarer' find.
