Rules: Nothing has changed, Entries are not required to be started in the time frame of the contest, only finished by the deadline. All entries however will still require a photo of the slab, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. Again, please remember to include a pic or two of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab. We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to the RTH version of the Killer Cab Contest. I will do my best to monitor the other forums for duplicate entries, and any duplicates will be disqualified. You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share. Cabs posted here are only for the contest. I have a small request, because I am not always 100% confident in identifying all materials, if everyone could do their best to remember to ID the material (even if it may seem obvious) it would help me at times, I get concerned I will make a mistake if I guess when I am creating the poll. If you have no idea on the material, that's perfectly OK too I have entered my fair share of mystery materials, there is no shame in saying "not sure what this is", usually we get some ID help through out the contest too which is a bonus. Good Luck everyone! Carleton

Come on roy lets do this! haha. Finally feeling human again after our trip to Germany - between the jet lag and getting sick I was out of it for a good 7 days after we got home. This is the first cab I've made from material we brought back. This is German achat (agate) from the Bierbachtal (beer creek valley) region. We bought 3-lb each polished half-cobbles of this and another similar material in a little back-alley junk shop in a picturesque little town called Landau where we stopped for lunch on our way to Idar Oberstein. We saw much more of the material later in the rock museums - the typical color is opaque beige to pink with various internal patterns - this one resembling the growth lines on a tree. Germans call it agate but I think we would be more likely to call it jasper/agate here due to the opacity with the exception of the very center which features transparent agate material ringed with a red line. I'll post more pics later - I'm still holding out hope of finding time to do a formal trip report.

Interesting material Tommy. Hope you recover soon from all the travel problems. It's outstanding to have a material like than represented in this competition. I'm curious to hear of your adventures in I/O.
I've had a long lay-off from cab cutting for various reasons: remodeling, surgery, various illnesses, general crap. I'm now seeing a little daylight and will enter a stone this month if at all possible. I'm itching to get back to the wheels but Real Life has been overpowering me for a long while now.
Good luck to all!

Here is my contest entry. I picked up a couple small chunks of Agua Nueva Agate while at the Rockhound Roundup show in Deming this past spring. Some pieces have a quartz band running through them. These pieces are great for cutting cabs. The slab: The preform: The back all polished up: The finished cab: Jason

My grandson wanted me to make him a male necklace, he's 14. So I told him to find himself a slab and a shape and I would do the rest. I finished it this morning and almost having to take a photo of a bead instead of a cab due to my forgetfulness and haste. It is a cab of Brazilian Agate I had laying around for some time. The grandson beat me to it. lol!!!!!! The slab........ The preform.....please forgive me for the dust mites......... The finished cab, almost a bead........hole is not drilled completely through....... The backside........... The finished front side....... Thanks for looking, 39don
