Here's a couple of jade slabs I cut from a piece of rough I got at a local rock sale. I finally set up a scale and did a quick SG measurement of the slab on the left and it came out to be 3.0. I'm going to try and make a 2.5 inch diameter sphere from the rest of the rock.

juzwuz, purdy slabs. It looks like the bottom of the stone contains some Diopside. Pretty common with Washington Nephrites and might also account for your 3.0+ SG readings.
