At some point in time everything might have a hole through it but here are my pieces as i make them... They are not "true" cabs as they don't have flat backs. first one completed (back needs a litle more polishing though)

A cab does need to have a flat back, that only makes it easier to set in metal and helps it lie flat when worn. If you wrap it in wire it won't make a difference at all.
Looks good to me !!!
that should say... does not need to have a flat back.... sorry.. brain farts gettin worse!! lol

I have a rather large and semi heavy ruby in zoisite that is double sided, even the wrap I did was such as too be close to the same on both sides.... have not found anyone, other than me to wear it yet.... but that's ok.... it's a good convo piece!!

I'm probably going to drill holes through them and put jump rings and chords on. No idea about selling... maybe some day. Tomorrow i might start shaping some stuff... got some fire agate to free up also

I need to try to do a few cabs made with local stuff now while i'm waiting... the only problem is most of it is not slabbed but i have a few pieces to work with. My only debate now is do I slab or cab! As far as cabs go if it is not how i want it if its not the best material i will keep grinding it until it is how i want it.. I might try and grind a little on my tile saw tonight... not sure if i will do pre forums or work on a piece of fire agate someone sent me. Hard to say what I will do but the snow coming tonight makes my decision a little easier as i wont be trying to find rocks. Thanks Kap! This is my next to be made cab freeforum (local rock) it is jasper but not the best quality, although it has great color compared to what i normally find. It has not been shaped yet in the photo thats the natural shape which i will be using... It is an end cut so i did a lot of pre forming on the back side. I only have 1 more piece of this as it was a small rock (i cut it in half).

new cab Donno the material (not jasper), I know it contains small garnets. Only have 1 more piece to cab as it was a small rock. Local Alaskan find. I want more of this stuff!

I'll probably postpone cabbing at least until thursday between college classes... Reason being i want to slab up most of the stuff i got as my put in slab pile has become a little messy due to the small room... Soo many clear agates to cut in hopes of something good I will start with my cab worthy stuff first though. If anyone wants to see pics of Alaskan stuff I deem cab worthy I can post some photos.

Your second cab is a winner. Nice pattern & colors, great find on the material. Rich Thanks, If i could i would like all the materials i find to cab to have as much color varity, patterns or unique features. It is not too easy to find good colorful cab worthy stuff like that by my means of transport. I did get a bucket of picture jasper from my friend / flint knapper but there are only a few pieces i am putting in my rough cabbing material pile.. most of the other stuff is just chocolate brown. I'll be cutting a lot of material tomarrow probably if i have enough time after doing my tumbler stuff.
