Do those cloud lies follow the air blowing off the ridge ? That black wood in top of last photo looks real silicified judging from the conical fractures, like glass.
Those skies look angry, have you been behavin' ? me and Denise think that is hell, a beautiful one.

awe inspiring! incredibly beautiful. Love storms, especially incoming. Neat that you found wood,and those are good ones, but just being there to watch that had to be the prize of the day. Lucky us that you took pictures! once again, thanks for sharing! (don't stop!)

James, there was a mass of cold air coming in from the north (left) mixing with warm air from the south. Made for a westerly flow which pulled the clouds up the corridor. That black nodule, my guess is a wood replacement. I have found similar, but without the white. Looks like obsidian, but is not brittle. More like a black jasper. Tuckered last couple days, been high steppin' it doing fall stuff. mostly raking leaves, planting garlic and a couple trees.

That black one sure looks to be wood. Bet it is hard.

dang those sunsets look like rio grande agates! all purty like that. I dont see any fish. You must be slackin' Just sayin'...
