those are great! Love the top one, makes me drool! That last photo looks like a cross section of a spinal column. Very interesting piece. Do you have a picture of what that looked like before you cut it?

Well, based on the green flora on the first three, I'm going to guess Moss Agate. Those must be recent surface finds, or they spent some time out back in the rock pile. What part of the world are they from?
Darryl.

I cut several of my Paint Rock Agate that looked like your third picture down. Whatever the lighter orange material is in mine was too soft and didn't hold together. Which was too bad because I really liked the lighter colors.
That last one though, my goodness, it is really cool looking. Could pass off as a agatized spine for sure. I need to see if I can find a few pictures of some of my cut paint rock.

What part of the world are they from? Darryl. No moss agate. Paint Rock Agate. They are surface finds, but not from a mine; private property naturally

I hope you don't mind me adding some of my Paint Rock pics here as well.
Here is one of my most hopeful yellows. This one has not been cut. I don't have my big saw running yet.
Same stone different view.
Small one I was able to cut on my 10" saw:
This is one I took to Will Smith (TnAgate.com) in Nashville to look at and cut for me. I had just walked out of his shop and shot the picture in my car. I think it looks a little better in person, it's still dirty from the saw. He cut me two slabs and said the material is about a 5 on his scale of 1-10. Then of course he showed me some that he considers a 10 and boy they really blew me away. I was in such awe it wasn't until later that I realized I hadn't even asked if I could photograph some of his prized specimens.
Thanks for looking.

fantastic5 thanks for sharing. Im hoping to find some of that greasy cove paint rock agate like in your first pic. Will Smith thought it resembled greasy cove also. This material came from private property on the other side of the mountain from greasy cove. Have you ever collected in greasy cove? Will suggested I give it a try. He felt that it was possible that the creek could have brought down more material from the source.

Yes, east side, almost to the Alabama border. Google Greasy Cove Rd, Franklin County Tn. Pulling it up on the map, I was mistaken on it being closer to Greasy Cove, the site I collected from was several miles to the west.

Looking closer on the map, I bet the creek Will used to hunt is Martin Branch. The creek closer to the road only tops out at 1200 feet. Will is certain that the agate only develops between 1600 and 1800 feet.

Will is certain that the agate only develops between 1600 and 1800 feet. But but but... All the agate I'm finding near me is at the 1250 elevation. It may form at 1600-1800 but it surely does roll a bit down hill. PM me anytime you'd wanna go hunt and would like some extroverted company of my wife and myself. Thanks for the tips!
