There was an old timer digging Flower Garden at what was called agate hill @ Woodward. He let me pick a few out of his tailings. It was some of the prettiest agate I bought home from Texas. Yellow red orange and green and fine patterns. That last photo is some primo flower garden. When I left Woodward ranch I went to Lake Falcon and found this flower garden.Like it was sent down.

Yep, when I went to Woodward many many years ago, we didn't even bother with flower garden or moss agate because the per pound price was the same whether you got plume bisquits or flower garden/moss so we all hunted plume. At that time I actually found a couple of flower garden boulders in one of the first ravines NW of the headquarters that were so big I didn't want to pay for them or tote them up out of that freaking steep canyon. I didn't have a lot of money back then and those hunks would have cost me a hundred+ bucks even at the 50 cents per pound rate they were charging back then. We even left a lot of good black plume cause it was red plume bisquits we wanted *L*. How times have changed....Mel

That's all Texas material?! hmmmmm.... After a few hundred more pounds of California jasper & agate make it into my stash, I know which state I'm gonna start adding to the collection. Probably less expensive than Cali rocks too!

Dang Mel, now I'm getting antsy to cut into those rocks from the kids. Box should be here tomorrow.

I went to the Rio on the road heading south from Alpine there on the Brewster County line. Collecting not allowed, the big agates were there. Probably from N. Mexico/Mexico W. Texas. The gravels further downstream @ L. Falcon were sure smaller, probably easier to move downstream. The diversity more than made up for it. Tromped around Big Bend peaks, cried at all the rocks you can not collect. It was mentioned Woodward was for sale back then. thinking Mel should by it and invite us all. I like T-bones. Actually preferred Zapata. That place was kinda crazy.
