I don't usually do this - I'm easy-going and forgiving and it takes a lot to get me to this point - but I also know there have been a lot of mixed reviews of JBL on this board.
I kept seeing their ad for soft wheels in Rock and Gem mag so I decided to give them a try. I found the POS out-dated ... no Paypal and who uses "e-checks" anyway? OK forgivable ... moving on. Placed an order for an 8" soft wheel - communication after the sale and shipping was sluggish but again, forgivable ... moving on.
When the wheel arrived I could tell it was a piece of crap the moment I saw it and held it but I was truly optimistic because I didn't want the experience to turn into a waste of time or money, so with an open mind I mounted it and began the break-in procedure exactly as stated on their directions. Within several minutes of work ... plenty of water, soft approach back and forth with a hard agate with rounded edges ... a chunk broke loose and flew out of the middle of the wheel surface. Not just from the rubber over-burden, it was a chunk missing from the belt exposing foam below. This confirmed what I could already see and feel - that compared to Nova wheels the JBL wheel was a piece of crap. You get what you pay for ... live and learn.
We immediately contacted JBL who instructed us to send the wheel back (at our expense of course) so they could look at it and see if it was failure of the wheel or user-error which immediately pissed me off but whatever ... I understand people break stuff and lie about it. Two weeks later, no contact, phoned again to follow up - somebody would look at it and let us know. Week later phoned again and were lied to that the credit memo had already been sent but absolutely had not been which was confirmed when they sent it for real and I received it instantly.
To summarize: I'm thankful that they ultimately stood behind their product and gave our money back but I will never do business with them again. In my opinion the soft wheel product was a piece of crap compared to what I am used to, and their communication and service sucked ass.
