This is one of the rocks we brought back from Germany - it originated in the town of Waldhambach. Eva and I visited Waldhambach on our way to Idar-Oberstein, and we tried to get access to the mining operation where these agates used to be found but it's closed to the public. We tried to find a way to sneak in the back - we hiked a mile up and over a heavily wooded hill and reached the back of the mine grounds but it was heavily fenced off. We made the best of a fun as hell afternoon with a vigorous hike to visit a castle ruins with a gorgeous view. We found this rock in a little shop in the town of Landau on our way to Waldhambach. How very fitting that I finally cut it on Halloween day and discovered such a happy ghostly agatey couple inside Say hello to the Germans ... She's telling him how much she adores him... and he's rolling his eyes... this was a fascinating rock - the outside hinted at what was inside but needless to say I was stunned when I cut it. We took photos like this for all of our rock purchases to get through customs. We didn't end up needing it but it's nice to have now. Madenburg ruins above Waldhambach

Surprises like that are what rock cutting is all about. Bringing home a rock from afar has added a new depth to travel. Enjoy the moment. Tom

Wow, I can hardly believe you didn't glue some googly eyes on those slabs. Incredible!

Mr abd Mrs look like they have had too much beer. Glad Tommy sobered up to cut/create them. Fabulous specimen.

Beautiful Tommy! I thought the castle looked familiar, I grew up 20 miles from Waldhambach.
