I think it was all mined from the same location most likely Mexico. It all as a waxy surface The purple opal were all pretty familiar with It will fool ya into thinking its Tiffany stone The pink is fabulous with a black marblish type matrix attached to it. --Its what my signature heart is made from. That black matrix-- But this green rock is different It more like a clay. Very compacted. anyone have a clue what it might be? Thanks Ed

The green stuff looks like altered rhyolite tuff, I find similar looking material in the owyhees. Robert.

Hey Ed, One of the outcrops I know of is shattered due to ground movement, and when you knock pieces off, it breaks off in small angular pieces, it's really glassy looking material. The second outcrop is more solid but not as glassy looking, I have not tried to polish material from either of the outcrops. I have never even brought any of that stuff home, but I was opal prospecting when I came across them. Robert.

One other option for the green one, is a serpentine formation (when it is interdigitated with talc, its called ricolite, and looks a lot like your last photo. Very soft, polishes exquisitely, and is quite fun to work with. Either way the green one should be fun to work up into a creation. I'll try to post some ricolite cabs in a separate thread, a bit later today. Tom

Here are 3 cabs recently done from ricolite. As you can see there is variation depending on degree of striping. Apologies for lighting. Greens are more brilliant in real life, faded here in my photos. Tom

I like ricolite too! excellent cabs Tom !
I really serpentines type materials my material as just a trace of banding
would that type of material be found around the type of opalize material in my picture ? I got that rough out of a bag and that was the only piece of green material in there so different form the rest of the stuff....

I was hounding the owyhees yesterday and hiked to one of the out crops I mentioned previously, I took some pic's but in the direct sun I could not get my camera to show how green this stuff really is. Oh well! I tried. Robert.

Oh yaw, that would be fun to tumble and finish in my vibe! The pieces don't look like they would need much work to make them very nice specimens. Any idea of the mohs for the last specimens photographed?
