Paul, I wish I had seen your post about the Searchers meeting. Got there to a almost empty parking lot. There were a few searchers hanging out. Are you going to start attending the meetings? -Bill G

Wow. last time I was at a gem show where they were selling coconuts, I was stunned by the prices they were asking. I used to go by a place called Griegers down in LA and buy them by the gunny sack full for like 50 cents per pound. Those were seconds and about half were hollow and half solid. Some were very nice when cut. Last show I saw them at, you'd be paying like $40 for one coconut that might be hollow, about 8-10$ per pound. If you got a nice amethyst one, maybe that would be OK but there is a gamble involved and that sure seemed a steep price to me when a lot are just plan ole quartz or calcite crystals. You can buy proven Brazilian amethyst geodes a lot of time for about that same price, especially at shows like Quartzite. I got there on closing day one time and my buddy and I talked this dealer down to $15 bucks each for ammy geodes that weighed ten pounds or so. I still have mine on my hearth......Mel

@shotgunner: bummer about the pricing! Curious to know what you're going to do with them (maybe I missed the project, duh) billg22: No, I don't go, it's too far but I'm still on the mailing list so I get the notifications.

Paul, once I get the sphere I am working on now for a fellow member here, I will be grinding them in the sphere machine. Like this.

Thunder eggs might look pretty cool too.

The common T-eggs I have played with (richardsons ranch unknown bed) have a red mud shell around the chalcedony rose inside. It is way too soft to cut into a sphere. In fact, that being said I want to try to dissolve away that red clay/mud to get at the chalcedony rose inside. Maybe there is something can be done with that! I gave lparker an order for some 95% solid ones. His price was great and even a solid agate ball will be cool, if there is any banding at all.

Have you tried Keokuk geodes? You can get them pretty cheap.

Just saw you want to make spheres...gotta go back out and replace the doubles I dug out. The ones I got are 4.5-5+ inches. I have to melt the snow off and let them dry before I pack them...tomorrow. Lee #1

I've got enough 4-5" ones left for 3 LFRB. I have a lot of 2-4" ones.
