I just got back from a rock shop and bought a bunch of rocks. I'm not sure what these are. Anyone know? Thanks! The green one in the first picture has some shiny goldish flakes…it's not showing up. I might have to take another pic of that one by itself.

Pic #2 top one is rhodonite a beautiful manganese ore. Pic #3 top one looks to be ocean jasper - but I will gladly accept being shown incorrect by others with more knowledge... Sabre52Pic #3 bottom looks to be obsidian, but the image doesn't give enough to be certain. It could also be some form of petrified wood. The rest look to be needing more image angles for proper ID Congratulations on being adventurous and buying nice stuff, not knowing what it was!

I agree the photos are are a little tricky for I.D. but I will guess at a couple pic #2 bottom right looks like calico lace (if it has some purple in it?) here is a calico lace cab I mad for reference pic #3 top right looks like garbage rock and you should sell it to me for $5. Or maybe it is very expensive (rare) peanut obsidian?. I would like a closer pic of that one. here is a peanut ob. cab I made for reference. your background color is lighter but could still be it. Chuck Thanks Shotgunner and Chuck. I have a shop close to me that has piles of rock. I go there with my spray bottle and spend and hour or two looking and picking out pretty ones. Today I also got some Dino bone, pet wood, and crazy lace. Chuck here are a few pics of the one you wanted to see more of. I have never seen it before, and the shop owner didn't know what it was either. It's weird how the background is green striped and then the red spots. Makes me wonder how it formed. Thanks again, Andrea

Yes Chuck it's 3.45 lbs. So I take it it's not a garbage rock? Now I'm scared I will mess it up. I wish I had a better saw than my 10 tile saw. :/

Thanks again, Andrea Yes, definitely peanut obsidian, which I have seen go for $75-100 per pound. You scored great on that one.

Here of some photos my 33# chunk of peanut obsidian so you can compare: Wow 33#….that's one big hunk of peanut obsidian. I've been looking online at some pictures of peanut obsidian and I think that is what my piece is also, but I thought obsidian is translucent…this looks opaque to me.

Not all obsidian is transluscent. For example, mahogany, spiderweb and firework obsidians are opague. I have also found pure gray obsidian near Las Vegas that is also opaque.
