With all these hunting photos coming on here and bringing some good memories back for this Ol' dog...
I thought I would post a few photos of my family and hunting....
Hunting in Montana and North Dakota was like no other, the game was there, you just had to do your homework and earn it...
After my accident,I quit construction and worked for a rancher,I had use of his land in ND,I got to know every nook and cranny on his land for hunting..
The end results were rewarding to say the least.....
My son Garrett's first hunt ever-it was called a youth hunt in ND,starts out a few weeks before hunting season..
Gives them a chance to tag a deer without the full hunting pressure when season starts for regular hunters..
He had a chance at three big deer, but he wanted his guy....
Turned out Garrett was a great shot and tracker.....He was easy to teach, loves the outdoors...
Here is his 2nd deer ever, the hunting season the year after his youth hunt...
I'll never forget this hunt ever! It was over 30 MPH winds, snowing and COLD!!! We pushed this deer fora few miles, walking and walking,I finally told Garrett to go ahead of me and down this buck...He did and it was well worth the punishment we went through to tag him...
Garrett's 3rd year of hunting and his last.............Told me he just lost interest of hunting....Sad,but what can you do..
My son Travis............He started working at 15 years old "Parttime" and playing football and school..Had a very tight schedule,so his time was limited....Always got a deer, but usually could only hunt a few hours, than off to work or football..
One day he had a full day to hunt with Dad,so I put him on a nice buck,in a few hours, this was his reward.....
As I said,I taught all my family to hunt,so my wife Tammy has hunted a few years, tagging does and smaller bucks....
I finally had her talked into doing a nice buck hunt...
I had been watching this buck all summer and knew his route and area....It took Tammy 16 days of "COLD","WIND" and tears of quiting sometimes, because of his moves he pulled on her,but she stuck to her "guns" and was rewarded on the 16th day.....
Last but not least.......I have many many deer hunts under my belt and loved them all........Filled the freezer every year and always enjoyed the outdoors with my family and friends....
This hunt here was the most memorable for myself.......It was a very foggy day and I had been watching this buck for a week or so,I knew his moves like my watch..so I thought..LOL
One morning he didn't show up and so I thought, well maybe someone shot him,so I packed up and was headed home...As I was going past a seeded hay field,I spotted a doe, than a site of a buck,"IT WAS HIM".....I drove a bit more, pulled off the road and walked back to wear I seen them.....Yuppers still there, the doe was hot and he was stupid!!!
I took aim, gave him a chance,as he looked me straight in the eye,he just stood there looking....I dropped him with one shot...
(Sorry for the blurry photo, this was way before digital cameras...LOL)
