I'll defer to the real pro's.
Let me stick my neck out and offer "it looks like Rio Grande to me."
Again, it's a guess. It is really gorgeous by the way! Would have made a killer sphere!

Wow, so many places that yield good moss. Colors do look a lot like a Rio grande but most those are rounded cobbles. Could be from northern Mexico or west Texas. From the source so not tumbled into a cobble by ancient stream action. Could also be Maury Mountain......Mel

There's moss agate in the hole near the parking lot at Maury Mtn., hard rock mining, and not the safest place to work. Better bet is to walk, the stuff is all over that place, not as in laying everywhere, but pieces are there to find over a large area. Obviously, where it is on the surface, it's under too.

That's some agate from the San Raphael Swell, in Utah... assuming the colors are really that bright. C-ya, Rick

C-ya, Rick Very interesting . ive id most of the rocks i bought at this auction and they have been from arizona and utah, so it is very likely. the color is the same as the pic . i have never seen this moss from utah . i would think it would have a name as awesome as it is .

Yeah, I've only seen it called Raphael Swell Agate or, sometimes, Grape Agate. Rick
